ABOUT MARBLE HOUSE PROJECT

Mission  

Marble House Project is a multi-disciplinary artist residency program that fosters collaboration & the exchange of ideas by providing an environment for artists across disciplines to live and work side by side. Our residency program is uniquely curated to bring together a diverse group of artists to facilitate exchange of different expertise, histories, techniques and perspectives.  With a focus on conservation of natural resources, integration of small-scale organic food production and the arts, residents sustain their growth by cultivating and participating in the surrounding grounds, working on their artistic vision and forging partnerships within the community. Marble House Project is founded on the belief that the act of creating, whether in the studio or in nature, is how human potential expands and community thrives.

Residency

Marble House Project launched the Artist Residency Program in the summer of 2014.  Each year, Marble House Project hosts six residency sessions lasting three weeks each and one 17-day residency for artists and their families. Artists groups are multidisciplinary which include artists working in film and video, literature, visual arts, music and composition,  dance and performance.

In 2017, Marble House Project launched two new residency programs: The Culinary artist Residency and The Collaborative Residency. The culinary residency runs concurrently with the artist in residency program.

Sustainable Practice

Marble House Project is committed to sustainable practice, and the conservation of natural resources. On our farm, we strive to grow as much of our own organic food as possible, to meet the needs of our residency program. We respect our soil and watershed, so we never use chemical fertilizers or pesticides.  We maintain a low-waste campus by conserving water and energy, composting, recycling, and locally sourcing materials and labor.  Many of our residents choose to deepen their awareness of our practices by participating in the planting and harvesting on our farm.

Community engagement

Community outreach is another form of sustainable action. We believe that ideas sharing enriches the creative process, and allows for community growth, which reaches beyond our immediate campus.  The importance of community can be found in the residents interactions with each other, and in our relationship to the local community. In 2015, Marble House Project began ARTSEED, a series which introduces the community to our residents through concerts, performances, studio visits and lectures. Additional programs include garden tours, workshops, and farm to table dinners with our culinary artists.
